This analysis estimates the 'theoretical maximum' amount of water that could potentially be abstracted in the Kāpiti Whaitua without resource consent under the relevant provisions in the RMA and Proposed Natural Resources Plan. It estimates the ground and surface water takes of Kapiti using a GIS analysis approach as used by previous Whaitua studies.

Note: Greater Wellington undertook this work as part of information gathering leading up to the Whaitua Kāpiti process. This is only part of the information base that the Whaitua Kāpiti Committee may have drawn from and is not considered to be definitive. The Whaitua Kāpiti Implementation Programme was completed in September 2024, for more information see https://www.gw.govt.nz/environment/freshwater/protecting-the-waters-of-your-area/whaitua-kapiti/#committee
